Meet Dr. Candy Cheung

Dr. Candy Cheung graduated with her B.Sc. in Biochemistry and her D.M.D. in Dentistry from the University of British Columbia. She has always loved working with her hands and helping others, so it was only natural that she chose dentistry as her career. Throughout her education she excelled academically, receiving numerous awards and recognition. During her undergraduate studies, she was designated a Science Scholar, an award granted to the top twenty students in the entire Faculty of Science. During her graduating year in dentistry, she earned awards in Pediatrics, Orthodontics, and Prosthodontics and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, being one of the top five graduating students in her class. Dr. Cheung strives to provide clinical excellence by consistently staying up to date with advancements in dentistry. She regularly attends educational and hands-on seminars throughout the world, to keep her skills current and to provide the best care to her patients. Many of the continuing education courses she pursues are from highly prestigious dental facilities including, but not limited to, the Dawson Academy, the Misch Implant Institute, and the Spear Education Centre. She also continues to update her practice with more efficient technology when necessary, to provide increased comfort for patients, diagnostic capabilities and more efficient overall treatment. Additionally, her passion for dentistry reaches beyond just her practice, as she volunteered her time teaching at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry for a few years, sharing her knowledge and expertise with aspiring dental students in our community. She was even awarded a Sessional Faculty Teaching Award, an honour that was bestowed by the students themselves, to recognize her excellence in teaching. Dr. Cheung provides a comprehensive approach to treatment, involving her patients in the process by educating them and allowing them to make informed decisions. She is very patient and personable, taking the time to explain, educate and help patients feel comfortable with their treatment options. She takes great pride in alleviating any anxiety or fear patients may have and providing them with efficient and personalized care. Apart from dentistry, Dr. Cheung spends most her time with her family, which includes her two bichon frises: Toby and Misty. You will often find them walking on trails and enjoying lunch at cafes around the city.
